Senior CSA Engineer
The Senior Site CSA Project Engineer is responsible for the technical delivery, coordination, and quality assurance of CSA engineering works on site, from detailed design review through construction, inspection, testing, and handover.
The role acts as the primary CSA technical authority on the project site, ensuring all CSA works are delivered in accordance with the approved design intent, statutory requirements, specifications, programme, EHS standards, and company procedures. The Senior Site CSA Engineer supports project teams by resolving complex technical issues, coordinating interfaces with MEP and other disciplines, and mentoring junior CSA engineers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project & Technical Delivery
- Lead site-based CSA engineering activities to ensure safe, compliant, and timely delivery.
- Act as the main CSA engineering point of contact between site teams, design consultants, subcontractors, and the client.
- Review and manage CSA design deliverables to ensure constructability, buildability, and alignment with site conditions.
- Manage CSA RFIs, design deviations, and technical queries through to closure.
- Ensure CSA interfaces with MEP, BIM, logistics, and temporary works are coordinated and resolved.
2. EHS (Environment, Health & Safety)
- Ensure all CSA works comply with project and company EHS Plans.
- Promote safe-by-design and safe-by-construction
- Participate in design risk assessments, method statement reviews, and temporary works reviews.
- Identify CSA-related hazards early and support mitigation through design and construction planning.
- Support site safety walks, audits, and incident investigations related to CSA scope.
3. Procurement & Subcontractor Management
- Support preparation and review of CSA RFQ packages and scope documents.
- Evaluate CSA technical submissions for compliance with specifications and drawings.
- Support clarification of technical scope gaps, constraints, and risks with subcontractors.
- Assist the PM and procurement teams with technical input into subcontract awards.
4. Quality, Inspection & Commissioning Support
- Review and implement CSA Quality Plans, ITPs, and CTQ requirements on site.
- Define CSA system boundaries, inspection stages, and test pack requirements.
- Lead or support CSA inspections, walkdowns, and third-party or authority audits.
- Manage snagging, defect tracking, verification, and close-out.
- Ensure CSA as-built records, redlines, and O&M documentation are accurate and complete.
5. Planning & Programme
- Support integration of CSA engineering activities into the overall project programme.
- Track CSA deliverables, constraints, and interface milestones.
- Identify and escalate programme risks arising from CSA design, procurement, or construction activities.
- Support recovery planning and sequencing strategies where required.
6. Engineering & Design Coordination
- Conduct technical reviews of CSA drawings, calculations, specifications, and BIM models.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, codes, standards, and project specifications.
- Coordinate resolution of site clashes, access issues, maintainability, and constructability concerns.
- Identify and support CSA value engineering and cost-saving opportunities.
7. Communication & Reporting
- Maintain CSA engineering trackers, logs, and registers (RFIs, submittals, deviations, snags).
- Provide regular CSA progress updates to the Project Manager and Lead CSA Engineer.
- Participate in project meetings, coordination workshops, and design reviews.
- Communicate CSA risks, constraints, and lessons learned clearly to the wider project team.
8. Risk Management
- Identify CSA technical and construction risks at site level.
- Ensure risks are captured within project risk registers and managed proactively.
- Escalate critical or unresolved risks to senior engineers and project leadership.
- Contribute to mitigation strategies and contingency planning.
9. Commercial Awareness
- Support PM and QS teams by providing CSA technical input to variations, change events, and claims.
- Understand CSA scope boundaries and their cost and programme implications.
- Assist in protecting the project against technical scope creep and unapproved changes.
10. People, Mentoring & Development
- Mentor and guide Project CSA Engineers, Graduate Engineers, and site-based technical staff.
- Support competency development through coaching and on-the-job technical guidance.
- Promote best practice, standardisation, and continuous improvement within the CSA team.
- Engage in CPD and support professional development initiatives.
